So what exactly is a Spirited Kid?
Spirited kids are trickier for parents to raise and can be very:
Emotional, Energetic, Intense, Perceptive, Persistent, Sensitive, Determined, Courageous, Lively, Sprightly, Enthusiastic, Vivacious, Animated, Reactive, Alert, Charming, Charismatic and Unique!
Author and parenting expert Mary Sheedy Kurcinka coined the phrase ‘Spirited Child’ and defines the spirited child as being MORE intense, sensitive, perceptive, persistent and energetic. She says that ‘All children possess these characteristics, but spirited kids possess them with a depth and range not available to other children. Spirited kids are the Super Ball in a room full of rubber balls. Other kids bounce three feet off the ground. Every bounce for a spirited child hits the ceiling.’
Spirited kids tend to attract many labels – strong-willed, difficult, stubborn, challenging, defiant, oppositional….and the list goes on. It is believed that 10-15% of children are considered ‘spirited’.
